South Sands Sandcastle Competition
Salcombe Town Regatta
The South Sands Sandcastle Competition, which is part of the Salcombe Town Regatta, is always one of the highlights of our summer season. Despite the relentless rain that accompanied the event this year, the enthusiasm and creativity of the participants shone through, proving that a little weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of our competitors.
The competition, held on South Sands Beach, was a spectacle of artistry and teamwork. Families, friends, and sandcastle enthusiasts of all ages gathered to showcase their skills and imagination. From towering castles to intricate sea creatures, the sandy creations were as varied as they were impressive.
The day started with a drizzle but armed with buckets, spades and boundless imagination, participants of all ages braved the wet weather to create stunning sand sculptures on South Sands Beach. From towering castles complete with moats to intricate sea creatures and whimsical sand art, the creativity on display was truly inspiring.
After much deliberation, winners were chosen across various categories, including Best Traditional Sandcastle, Best Sand Sculpture and Best Comedy Sand Sculpture. The winners were announced to cheers and applause, with prizes and bottles of bubbly courtesy of South Sands. We were delighted to see the smiles on the faces of the winners as they collected their prizes. The South Sands Sandcastle Competition, despite the rain, was a perfect example of what makes our town so special.
We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who participated in the competition, from the intrepid sandcastle builders to the spectators who came out to support them. We hope all the winners enjoy their prizes and the celebratory bottles of bubbly. Here’s to many more years of sandcastle-building fun, whatever the weather!
