"We discovered you last year thanks to your Instagram posts - I saw the photos and how amazing it looked - but we still thought they’d been enhanced in some way as we were sure it wouldn’t look quite so wonderful.
Anyway we arrived on a glorious May Day and the photos didn’t lie - the bay and the hotel are stunning. We stayed in Dragon 17 - the views and the sound of the waves is hypnotic. We hired kayaks for 6am paddles and got the sea tractor to the ferry to Salcombe and just generally relaxed . We ate wonderful breakfasts and dinners with you - always spot on.
And then we returned in August for more of the same and we will definitely be back this year.

15 Years of South Sands
"I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2019, and whilst sitting waiting at various clinics for numerous appointments, I used to scroll relentlessly through Instagram, looking at pictures of beautiful places and beaches that I dreamed of visiting when all of the bad stuff was over.
I started following South Sands Hotel whilst recovering in hospital from surgery, I‘d look at the pictures of the hotel bedroom windows and choose my rooms and times of the year that I would stay, I even pictured myself on the terrace celebrating my 60th birthday which would be in 2022. Roll on through covid, further surgeries and 2022 arrived. Me and my partner picked our room and booked to come and stay with you for my 60th birthday in the August.
I had made it, I cried as I walked through the main door, and again into our beautiful room 19… wow, the views & sounds that welcomed us. I will never forget the view and the sound of the ocean at 2am, standing at the juliette balcony in our bathroom looking out to sea.
I think this picture says it all… my 60th, on the terrace with my cream tea and a glass of fizz…dreams really do come true…

We have always thought of South Sands as a home from home for our guests.

Days spent barefoot and windswept, followed by evenings with great food, great wine and even better conversation. There is a rhythm here that stays with you long after you have left.
"Our visit later this year will be the 18th year at South Sands with our first in 1962. Altogether we've been coming for 57 years to Salcombe, 31 staying in various hotels and 26 times in our caravan at Southern Mill.
Our first year was 1956, although my Wife, Pamela, came first with here Parents in 1946,when there was still barbed wire on the beaches. I think this proves that we enjoy our holidays in Salcombe!!"
